Below is a message from the founder of the Institute, Bilu Huang. This letter not only shares the original intention and vision behind establishing the Institute, but also explains why we firmly believe that focusing on fundamental mechanisms through basic research is the essential path to conquering aging-related diseases.
Dear Visitor,
Welcome to the official website of the Bilu Huang Institute for Aging Research. I am writing to share with you the profound reasoning and steadfast conviction behind the establishment of this institute.
My path into aging research has been unconventional. Instead of following a preset academic ladder, I was driven by the determination to conquer aging and death through years of interdisciplinary reading and independent reasoning: what is the most fundamental, unified causal mechanism of aging as a biological process? This "unconventional path" compelled me to look beyond entrenched paradigms in some fields, focusing on logical consistency and mechanism-first deduction, which ultimately led to the construction of the TRCS model—a novel theory of telomere & rDNA co-regulation for cell senescence through p53 pathway— to explain aging.
This is the core reason behind founding this non-profit institute. Aging is the root of all major diseases, yet mainstream research largely focuses on combating its downstream manifestations. We believe that to truly conquer aging-related diseases like Alzheimer's and cancer, we must trace back to the source and address the fundamental biology of aging itself. Therefore, we decided to create a pure research entity, free from short-term commercial incentives, dedicated to answering the most fundamental yet often overlooked "why."
We are convinced that "fundamental mechanism research" is essential. Only by understanding how the aging program operates can we aim to reverse it, rather than merely managing its symptoms. Concentrating resources and intellect here is the most far-sighted investment in human health.
The TRCS model was born from this pursuit. It did not emerge solely from summarizing experimental data but through systematic logical deduction, attempting to distill the complex phenomena of aging into a comprehensible, foundational framework. It provides a novel, unified theoretical perspective for understanding aging and its related diseases, serving as the scientific cornerstone of this Institute.
Looking ahead, the Institute's vision is to become a beacon in the field of fundamental aging science. We are committed to:
This path is undoubtedly long and challenging, but it is worthy of our full dedication. I hereby sincerely invite you—whether you are a scholar, student, fellow traveler in the mission of longevity, or a supporter concerned with humanity's future—to follow our work, engage in dialogue with us, or consider supporting this grand endeavor in any form.
Thank you for your valuable time and attention. Changing the trajectory of human health begins with the step we take together today.
